ECA's Minges Makos accepting swimmers for summer team Registration is underway for East Carolina Aquatics's summer team, the Minges Makos, a member of the Greenville Area Summer Swim League. New and experienced swimmers age 5-18 are invited to join for the season, which runs May 29-July 28. New swimmers will be evaluated 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Minges Natatorium. This involves one-on-one interaction between a coach and the swimmer. Swimmers should be able to swim 25 yards without stopping, floating on their front and back, treading water or kicking with a kickboard. Swimmers should bring or wear a swim suit and goggles to tryouts. All Makos instructors are USA Swimming-certified coaches with full, multi-layered background checks. Head instructors were or are national-level swimmers who understand the sport of swimming. Makos swimmers learn the fundamentals of all four strokes and racing strategies in a fun, low-pressure environment as well as follow drill guidelines established and practiced by ECA Gators swimmers. Practice will be held at Minges Natatorium at ECU. Practice is held four days each week and competitions are held on Tuesday nights, plus an end of season championship meet. Cost for the entire summer program is $95 for ECA members ($50 for members participating in meets only) and $135 for non-members. The fee includes team cap, suit, and T-shirt, seasonal USA Swimming registration, training, meets and GASSL registration.
