A
recent report issued by the Southern Aids Coalition discusses an alarming

Campbell with the Brody School of Medicine.
Dr. Campbell says the epidemic facing the Southern Region of the US is
reflected in Eastern North Carolina. You can hear the story Wednesday, 8/20 at 7:40 am during Morning Edition on Public Radio East.
Coming soon... Libertarian Mike Munger is a candidate for Governor. We'll talk with the Duke University professor.
Coming soon... The price of gas and groceries aren't the only things on the rise. The cost of childcare is going up as well. We'll hear a report from PRE's Megen George. This week on The Down East Journal...
Cases of AIDS and HIV
in Eastern North Carolina are at epidemic proportions. We’ll learn the reasons behind the high
numbers. Explosive growth of
aquatic plants in the Trent River has some concerned about the health of the
river. Those stories and the weekly arts calendar, this
week, on The
Down East Journal. Fridays at noon
on all of the Public Radio East Stations and Saturdays at noon on the News and
Ideas Network.
On Classical Music for Eastern North Carolina at 89.3...
Public Radio East, presenting the MTT Files,
Michael Tilson Thomas (MTT). In this series, Michael will
metaphorically pull out some of his "files" files full of ideas about
music and art, and reminiscences of the legendary artists he's known
throughout his career. Catch MTT Files Saturdays at 1:00pm on 89.3 throughout eastern North Carolina and on 88.5 in Swanquarter, NC.
The great Austrian composer Gustav Mahler completed nine symphonies, most of which are more than an hour in length. On this week's "Complete Work," Public Radio East music director Sefton Wiggs will present Mahler's Symphony No. 7. First heard in September of 1908, this work is sometimes known as "Song of the Night" because the second and fourth movements of the five-movement work are called "Night Music." Listen at 8pm on Tuesday August 19 for this beautiful example of late Romanticism in a recording with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yoel Levi.
