Senator Elizabeth Dole Talks About Energy, Immigration

New Bern, NC – North Carolina U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole emphasized her work on energy, the mortgage crisis, immigration and healthcare in a recent interview with Public Radio East's Megen George. Republican Dole is running for reelection against Democrat Kay Hagan.

Dole particularly emphasized the need to address the high cost of energy.

"Families and a lot of businesses are struggling today because of the high price of gasoline. My view is that you've got to have a comprehensive solution to this energy crisis," Dole said.

Residents of the Albemarle - Pamlico Region are invited to share ideas and concerns about sea level rise at a series of public meetings that are being held over the next few weeks. Public Radio East's Megen George recently spoke with Sam Pearsall with the Nature Conservancy. The organization is one of several that are hosting the forums. Pearsall explained sea level rise and the threat it poses to the environment.

New rules on stormwater control receive Legislative approval

New Bern, NC – INTRO - The state Legislature has approved rules regarding coastal storm-water run-off that will supercede rules slated to go into effect next month. George Olsen has more.

The new rules replace those set up in the 1980s that many saw as ineffective in protecting shellfish waters from pollution. For those concerned about closures of shellfish waters, the new rules should be good news.

NC Senate Candidate Critical of Rival Elizabeth Dole

New Bern, NC – Democratic U.S. Senate candidate for North Carolina Kay Hagan was critical of the record of rival Republican Senator Elizabeth Dole during an interview with PRE's "Down East Journal." Hagan is a state senator from Greensboro seeking to defeat Dole, who has served in the Senate since 2002.

Hagan accused Dole of supporting policies that have allowed the U.S. to sink into debt, and that Dole has done nothing to support homeowners facing foreclosure.
