25-Year Solar Energy Pact Between Duke Energy And Corning Inc.

While the largest solar generating facility east of the Mississippi River is still under construction, the majority of the renewable energy produced has already been claimed.  Jared Brumbaugh has more on the Edgecombe County project.

Glass and ceramic materials manufacturer Corning Incorporated announced Monday that it has entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement for solar-generated electricity produced by Duke Energy Renewables. Corning will purchase 62.5% of the expected output of the facility, estimated to be 120,300 megawatt hours per year, equivalent to the annual power used by about 10,000 homes.  The remaining 30 MW capacity is under negotiation with another customer.  The nearly 600 acre solar farm is being constructed by Duke Energy Renewables in Conetoe and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.  I’m Jared Brumbaugh.
