FAQ: More Details About The New NPR Home Page

Why redesign the NPR home page?

See our welcome post. Then watch this video.

On what platforms can I explore the new home page?

The new home page is "responsive," optimizing for phones, tablets and desktops. You're welcome to visit NPR.org on all of those platforms. We have previously redesigned our story pages and blog pages in this fashion.

What browsers does NPR.org support?

We support all the browsers that account for five percent or more of the overall visits to our site. Currently, on desktop, we support the latest versions of Chrome, Safari and Firefox, as well as Internet Explorer 10. On mobile platforms, iOS Safari should perform well. Recent Android browsers have more technical variations, but many should function consistently.

Do I need any special tech to listen to audio or watch video?

If you use a supported browser, our site attempts to provide audio and video in an optimal fashion. On certain desktop browsers, you may need the Adobe Flash Player.

Who selects the stories on the home page?

NPR editors select all stories that appear on the home page, both in the main stack of stories and the upper-right "From NPR News" area. At the bottom of the page, in the infinite "Load More" area, stories come from editor selections within the News, Arts & Life, Books, and Music sections.

Do I receive all stories on all platforms?

Yes. Because of the responsive design, you will always receive all of our editors' home page story selections, no matter your size of screen.

What's the story behind the larger sponsorship?

The new home page will occasionally feature a new "Center Stage" sponsorship beneath the day's top stories. We've designed it specifically to provide value to our sponsors while maintaining for users a clear sense of what's editorial content and what's not. You can find more details on this page.

What if I have other questions?

Feel free to contact us or leave questions in that comments below. We'll check back for the first several days after launch (August 14) and update this page as necessary.
