Hurricane Chris continues to accelerate away from NC Coast

The National Hurricane Center is advising coastal North Carolina residents to monitor Hurricane Chris which is about 570 miles east-northeast of Cape Hatteras.

Hurricane Chris continues to move away from the North Carolina coast. Chris is moving to the northeast at 25 miles per hour with 90 mile per hour maximum sustained winds. Further acceleration in the same direction is expected the next few days.   The National Hurricane Center reports tropical storm force winds extend 160 miles from the storm's center and hurricane force winds extend 35 miles. No watches or warnings for the North Carolina coast are warranted at this time. 

Life threatening surf and rip current conditions will continue even as  Hurricane Chris moves away from the North Carolina coast today and Thursday.
