MCAS Cherry Point commemorates 75th anniversary

August 18th marks Marine Corp Air Station’s Cherry Point’s 75th anniversary and there will be a ceremony on the flight line marking the occasion.  Jared Brumbaugh has more.

The formal ceremony will take place at 5 o’clock and commemorate Cherry Point and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, also celebrating 75 years.  Both commands have been together for more than seven decades.  Cherry Point, originally known as "Air Facilities under Development at Cherry Point, North Carolina," was established on Aug. 18, 1941.  The 2nd MAW, which was activated in San Diego, Calif., on July 10, 1941, moved to Cherry Point after distinguishing itself in many major battles and campaigns during World War II.  I’m Jared Brumbaugh.
