Republican Greg Murphy defeated Democrat Allen Thomas in the special congressional election on Tuesday. The third district U-S congressional seat became vacant after Republican Walter B. Jones Jr. died in Feb 2019. Murphy had 61.74% of the votes, while Thomas had 37.47% of the votes with all precincts voting. Murphy won 16 out of 17 counties in the Third District. Constitution Party member Greg Holt and Libertarian Tim Harris combined pulled less than 1% of the vote.
