NC Teacher Turnover rate drops slightly

The state Board of Education is reporting a slight decline in the teacher turnover rate last school year. George Olsen has more.

A press release from the Department of Public Instruction reports 13,557 left their local school districts between March 2013 and March 2014. That translates to a turnover rate of 14.12, down slightly from the prior year’s turnover rate of 14.33. The top reason given for teachers leaving was personal reasons. That covers dissatisfaction with the profession and leaving to teach in another state, as well as other circumstances including health issues and family circumstances. The fourth highest number in the turnover rate was teacher termination… 1123 teachers fell under this category. Washington County had the highest turnover rate in the state at over 34 percent. Carteret County was one of 17 school systems reporting a turnover rate under 10 percent. I’m George Olsen.

George Olsen is a 1977 Havelock High School graduate. He received his B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of South Carolina in 1982 where he got his first taste of non-commercial radio working for their student station WUSC.
