Permanent water supplies coming for residents near coal ash faciliites

Well owners living near Duke Energy coal ash facilities have been notified that they’ll receive a permanent alternate drinking water supply.  A letter was sent to about 1,000 households this week.  Jared Brumbaugh has more.

Duke Energy is required by law to install and pay for a new water line or filtration system for each dwelling located within a half-mile of a coal ash facility. The utility must also install new water supplies beyond the half-mile boundary wherever any impact from coal ash is found. Areas in eastern North Carolina include the H.F. Lee Plant in Goldsboro and the Sutton Plant in Wilmington.  Duke Energy must submit plans for installing water supplies to all homes by December.  Affected households should have access no later than fall 2018.  I’m Jared Brumbaugh.
