The General Assembly has been called back to Raleigh to redraw North Carolina's congressional map before tomorrow’s deadline. Jared Brumbaugh has more on how the proposed changes would impact eastern North Carolina.
A redistricting committee led by Republicans rolled out proposed changes to the congressional map yesterday and approved it along party lines. The proposed map shows fewer counties in District 1, which currently includes two dozen counties- most of which are in the eastern part of the state. According to the News and Observer, the proposed 1st congressional district would be more compact and include most of Durham County. It would also drop parts of Beaufort, Craven, Lenoir, Greene and Wayne counties. If the General Assembly approves the map by the deadline, the federal court would have to sign off on the proposal. I’m Jared Brumbaugh.
