Rhett Miller On Mountain Stage

Rhett Miller appears here on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center in Morgantown. Miller has visited Mountain Stage several times over the years, both as a solo artist and with his alt-country band Old 97's.

This set showcases no fewer than three different sounds from Miller. He plays his first three songs solo before asking the members of Black Prairie to join him on stage. They promptly launch into a cover of "California Stars" from Wilco and Billy Bragg's collaborative album Mermaid Avenue, which sets previously unreleased Woody Guthrie lyrics to music. Miller also plays the Old 97's song "Broadway," which he introduces to the audience as "having the highest note in my entire 15-album catalog."

Miller is joined by the Mountain Stage band for his final two songs, "This Summer Lie" and "Wreck of the Old 97," from which his band draws its name.
