Sea Turtles released back to the wild

The Institute of Marine Scientists released a handful recuperated sea turtles this/yesterday morning.

A team of coastal scientists carried seven sea turtles out to the Gulf Stream, about fifteen miles offshore. Marine Biologist Matthew Godfrey says the Pine Knoll shores Aquarium will be monitoring some of the turtles for the next few months.

“Two of the turtles have satellite tags on them that the Aquarium was able to get funds for, and that should allow them to track their whereabouts - hopefully up to six-to-twelve months depending on batteries and things like that.”

The aquarium began caring for the turtles after last November’s sudden cold snap drastically lowered local water temperatures before the turtles could migrate to warmer waters.
