Soak, 'Blud'

Soak is the music of 18-year-old Bridie Monds-Watson. Her first album isn't even out yet, but based on her SXSW performance and the songs that are out there, it will likely be a top-ten record of the year for me.

This latest song, "Blud," is a peek into a relationship in crisis, and Bridie Monds-Watson wrote it about her parents before they separated. The imagery is sweet, a tender look at friendship and captured memories as Bridie begins her early experiences on the road as a musician.

Her debut album, Before We Forgot How To Dream, is out on June 2. Soak tour dates in the U.S. are shaping up. Keep an eye on her schedule and find time to enjoy an endearing eve.

In 1988, a determined Bob Boilen started showing up on NPR's doorstep every day, looking for a way to contribute his skills in music and broadcasting to the network. His persistence paid off, and within a few weeks he was hired, on a temporary basis, to work for All Things Considered. Less than a year later, Boilen was directing the show and continued to do so for the next 18 years.
