This week on the Down East Journal, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood was in Goldsboro this week to tour downtown revitalization projects.  L.C. Morris has an update on the effort, which has been in the works since 2007. And, an underwater fishing tournament takes place later this month.  Divers are hoping to snag as many non-native, invasive lionfish for a chance at winning some prize money.  The Down East Journal airs Friday at noon on all of the PRE stations, and Saturday at noon on Public Radio East's News and Ideas Network.

Plans are being set to revitalize a depressed area of downtown New Bern called Five Points.  The project would create local jobs, and attract new businesses to the area.
