From wind turbines, solar collectors and other renewable energy sources, North Carolina is greening up the way it generates power.  Legislation passed in 2007 states that 12.5% of North Carolina power sales must come from renewable sources by the year 2021.  We hear an update on renewable energy projects in North Carolina.

Local researchers embarked on a 10-day mission off the coast of North Carolina to map the ocean floor.  The new data may reveal areas where offshore wind energy development could occur with minimal impacts to sensitive fish habitats and ocean resources.

This week, local researchers embarked on a 10-day mission off the coast of North Carolina to map the ocean floor.  The new data may reveal areas where offshore wind energy development could occur with minimal impacts to sensitive fish habitats and ocean resources.  We’ll have more on the research project, this week on the Down East Journal, Friday at noon on all of the PRE stations, and Saturday at noon on News and Ideas.

This week on the Down East Journal, coastal scientists are hoping to deploy two buoys later this month to explore wind energy potential off the North Carolina coast.  The Down East Journal airs Friday at noon on all of the PRE stations, and Saturday at noon on News and Ideas.

Coastal scientists are hoping to deploy two buoys in April to explore wind energy potential off the coast of North Carolina.

This week on the Down East Journal, we explore the controversy over proposed wind energy turbines possibly interfering with Cherry Point base operations. Some say the wind projects planned for Pamlico and Beaufort counties may play into possible BRAC base closures.
