The Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge, in collaboration with the Pitt County Civic Arts Committee, invites visual artists to submit their credentials for the development and implementation of an outdoor mural on the R.A. Fountain General Store in Fountain, NC. The designated mural area, located on the side exterior of the building, is approximately 40 feet tall by 110 feet wide, however the resulting artwork design may work within the available wall surface and is not required to fill the entire area. It is desired that the resulting artwork infuses creativity and artistry into a prominent location while celebrating Fountain’s ties to music through the life, work, and cultural impact of local musician and luthier Freeman Vines. Ultimately, the mural should honor his legacy and contributions to the region’s musical identity.

Tryon Civitan Club presents the "No Child Wet Behind Diaper Drive"

Open every Saturday, April 11 - November 28th. The Onslow County Farmers Market connects local farmers & ranchers, food producers, and artisans with the community. Shop seasonal produce, meats, eggs, baked goods (including gluten free options), honey and handmade artisan products.

We accept SNAP/EBT and SUNbucks. We participate in NC Farmers Market Nutrition program providing produce to eligible WIC families and seniors.

Craven County Clean Sweep sponsors four annual clean up events on the first Saturdays of February, May, August and October to help keep New Bern streets and waterways free of litter. The upcoming one will be Saturday, August 1st, but if that day is not convenient, you can choose another day that fits your schedule!

It’s your choice to help out in any of these ways: by walking along the streets in your own neighborhood; by using your boat to clean up a waterway; by meeting with others at Craven County Administration
Building’s parking lot, 406 Craven Street on that Saturday at 9AM to be assigned a spot or by simply picking any other “trashy” area that’s been bothering you. The amount of time you spend on this is totally up to you – it can be 15 minutes or a few hours. Bags will be provided. The bags will, also, be picked up where you leave them so you do not have to carry them to another spot! For more information, call 633-0397

Tryon Palace is excited to once again host the artwork of popular photographer and beekeeper Deana B Marion to the North Carolina History Center.  We will be showcasing a new exhibit of her photography of pollinators – bees, butterflies, and insects on a variety of flowering blooms.  Her photography technique is macro photography with amazing detail!

The exhibit will also include video clips of activity at her beehives.

This exhibit is FREE and available to the public during our posted business hours at the North Carolina History Center.

Artist's Exhibit Description
The collection of macro images of bees and blooms in their native environment celebrates the art of nature, the beauty and wonder God created in the bees and blooms. The colorful images showcase the features of the small natural world as photographed in blooming trees and flower gardens. 

The plight of pollinators, their value to our food supply, and the causes for their declining population are receiving national attention, with pollination by honeybees responsible for one-third of our food and nearly $20 billion in value to agricultural crops each year in the United States. Deana B understands the issues are extremely important and has witnessed the alarming population decline firsthand. 

Deana B’s macro photography commenced in the 2002 with weekend classes taught by Barbara Brundege through the University of California Extension, Santa Cruz, along with numerous workshops where she was encouraged to “get closer, get closer.” She gained tremendous insight from a mentorship with Barbara focusing on enhancing the images to capture the intricate features of flowers with bees. Since 2010, she has specialized in photographing bees on blooms in exquisite detail at a distance of several inches. 

This unique body of images focus upon the beauty of bees in nature, all different but sharing a common theme, with attention to microscopic level features, use of color, and position of  blooms.

This is a Saturday morning acoustic traditional string music jam. A group of area musicians gather to play traditional music. This is a friendly welcoming group that enjoys playing together. New musicians and music fans are welcome. Please visit www.bctma.org for more information.

Feeling Ghostly? Need Some Spirit?
Audition August 1 for Historical Society’s Fall Ghostwalk

The New Bern Historical Society is looking for a few good ghosts. Whether you are a spirited novice or have lots of ghostly experience, the Historical Society wants you to portray the historic characters in this year’s Ghostwalk. Ghostwalk brings to life noted personalities from New Bern’s past who tell their stories. There’s no need to worry though, all the apparitions in these stories are from the pages of history, not from science fiction. Each year a new and different batch of spirits appear. Auditions will be on Saturday, August 1, 11am-1 pm at the Attmore-Oliver House at 511 Broad Street in New Bern.

The Historical Society is looking for volunteers, both men and women to play the phantom roles. All the roles are adult characters, but responsible teens with a parent are invited to audition to play the adult roles. Executive Director, Anthony Giardino explains “Whether you are a veteran actor or new to the stage, we would love to have you come out for this fun and exciting New Bern tradition.” No preparation is necessary. Participants will be asked to read from scripts. Those selected as ghosts will learn a script and participate in at least 5 rehearsals prior to Ghostwalk. They will perform at one of the many ghost sites including Cedar Grove Cemetery or historic porches, for all three nights. There are also some non-speaking roles available. Let us know if you are interested in those. Ghostwalk will take place the evenings of October 22-24, 2026.

The New Bern Historical Society auditions for the 36th Annual Ghostwalk take place Saturday, August 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Attmore-Oliver House (511 Broad St). No prior acting experience or preparation is required—volunteers will read directly from the audition scripts to place you in the perfect historic role.
