Video: Sad Sack Metalhead Just Wants To Be Loved

This is a video built on surprises and unusual juxtapositions, so it's hard to say much without ruining the pleasure of watching them unfold. But suffice to say, "Norwegian Black Metal," by the L.A.-based electro-pop group Superhumanoids, is both comical and heartbreaking — and worth multiple views.

Directed by Evan Weinerman, the video stars Saturday Night Live's Kyle Mooney, who nails the tricky balance between the sublime and ridiculous.

"We love the collision of pop and sadness," the band tells us via email. "And this song is just that. Lyrically it is about longing, curiosity and the ability for the mundane things in life to have the most devastating impact [but] we pair those lyrics with the most straightforward and featherweight sounds on the record. Similarly, the video takes a comedian (and friend) in Kyle and places him in a situation that on paper sounds comical, but in performance is devastatingly sad."

"Norwegian Black Metal" is from the Superhumanoids sophomore full-length, Do You Feel OK?, released earlier this year on Innovative Leisure.
